The oil and gas industry in New Mexico is currently facing two major water management challenges that threaten to limit future development in the state: management of produced water and acquisition of fresh water for drilling and development. This conference seeks to explore these issues, discuss potential solutions and a path forwards for industry and government.
The conference is intended for oil and gas, water treatment and management, and economic development professionals. Our goal is to encourage collaboration among stakeholders to synthesize and improve New Mexico and federal regulatory and environmental frameworks; and to foster economically viable opportunities to enhance fresh water conservation, produced water resource recovery, and produced water beneficial use. The format will have speakers, panel discussion, and a poster session. Speakers include:
Administrators from New Mexico, the EPA, and the Department of the Interior discussing produced water issues and trends.
Representatives from the oil and gas industry and midstream companies on reuse of produced water and technical and policy challenges in New Mexico
Technical experts on emerging produced water treatment approaches, reuse, and resource recovery options
Private equity, legal, and state infrastructure experts on the requirements, logistics, regional economic development opportunities, and viable cost structures to industry and developers.
Mike Hightower, Research Professor, Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, University of New Mexico & V.P., New Mexico Desalination Association (NM Desal)
